Breaking NHL news: New Jersey Devils re-sign Severson

Breaking NHL news: The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenseman Damon Severson to a six-year deal. The announcement was made Monday by Devils General Manager Ray Shero.

The $25 million deal will keep Severson with the Devils throughout the 2022-23 season. The contract is an escalating deal that will pay Severson $2.5 million this season and will reach $5.1 million in its final year.

In 80 games last season, the 23-year-old set career highs in assists (28) and points (31).

Severson’s contract comes with a $4.17 million cap hit to the Devils. In 203 regular-season NHL games, Severson, has scored nine goals and added 60 assists.
