Breaking NHL news: Sabres, Eichel agree to 8-year extension

Breaking NHL news: Phenom forward Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres have agreed to an eight-year contract extension. The deal is worth $80 million, with an AVV of $10 million against Buffalo’s cap.

The 20-year-old was in the final year of his entry-level contract he signed in 2015 when he was the second overall selection in the 2015 NHL entry draft.

This makes Eichel one of the highest-paid players in the league. Currently Connor McDavid’s $12.5 million annual salary is the NHL’s richest contract. Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Carey Price all make $10.5 million per year.

Last season Eichel lead the Sabres with 24 goals and 33 assists in just 61 games.
