Breaking NHL news: Jeff Carter is out indefinitely for the Los Angeles Kings after being injured Wednesday night. Carter was cut on the left leg in the first period of the game with the Montreal Canadiens.

Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry hit Carter resulting in a cut so severe that Carter will require surgery.

The 32-year-old Carter has three assists in six games for the 5-0-1 Kings. Last season, Carter led the Kings in both goals (32) and points (66).
